The Portable Appliance Testing course or PAT testing course as it is more commonly known is one of our most popular courses as it does not require you to have any formal previous qualifications and once completed, will enable you to offer your services.
PAT Testing Course
In the commercial setting, the law places a responsibility on all employers to ensure that the electrical equipment to be used by their staff and the public, should be fit for purpose and safe for use. Hence, all portable appliances have to be regularly checked and maintained by a competent person.
Who is eligible to participate in this course?
Although there are no formal requirements, it would be advantageous if you have a basic knowledge of electrical installation and its terminology.
The first day will cover all the basics and electrical terminology required to enable you to successfully complete the course.

C&G 2377-77 PAT (Portable Appliance Testing) Course

During the classroom based sessions you will cover the statutory and non-statutory requirements, the electrical units, how each class equipment is constructed, both the theory and practical elements of the inspecting and testing and completion of the necessary documentation.

The course will run over 2 days (Monday & Tuesday) plus assessment and will be classroom based.
The course is available both in London and Birmingham.

Learners will be expected to complete the following assessment at the end of the course:

The Final Exam
At the end of your training in centre you will be required to complete a log book of evidence showing when skills have been implemented in a working environment.

This course in delivered on Monday and Tuesday from 9.30am – 4.30pm with a break for lunch.
Upon completion of the course, an assessment will be booked. -

Exam and Assessments
At the end of the course, candidates must pass an assessment to demonstrate their competency in conducting PAT testing in real-world scenarios. This will be a reflective exam based on the material covered throughout the course.
Assessment Structure
The exam consists of 50 multiple-choice questions and has a duration of 1 hour and 45 minutes, allowing for just over two minutes per question. It is an open-book exam, meaning candidates can refer to approved literature during the test, whether taken in person or remotely.
For this assessment, students are permitted to use the IET Code of Practice: In-Service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment (5th Edition)—a key reference throughout the C&G 2377-77 course.
To pass, candidates must achieve a minimum score of 80%.
